Description: C-17 makes a island hopping from Ibiza to Mallorca the flightlevel is 22000 feet and the hud is on that you can see the speed and the altitude.

Warning: The video is boring that means it is only start...flying...and landing that's it.

Over the years many have come and gone but we've always kept up a good core and it's been a nice excuse to just get out and fly and enjoy the latest stuff in Flight Gear - as well as do some testing.

I'm going to put my impressive tackle on the line here and say that It's starting to feel like the enthusiasm for FlightNight is dipping. Don't get me wrong, there's always been peaks and troughs but the last year it really does feel like the love is going.

Ignoring timezones, various other commitments and ways people spend their weekends I just think that it's not possible to say the enthusiasm is there as it was previously.

So I'd like to use this post to discuss what you hate about flight night and what you'd like to see more of in order to increase participation.

Is it that the banter isn't as good anymore? Do we spend too much time talking about serious stuff?

Is there not enough "hard-core" flight sim stuff? Are you bored of just following a leader around some set way points, even when there's a good set of scenery beneath you?

What kind of flights do you come away from thinking "that was bloody good fun" and which ones leave you dead inside?

Everyone participate please, if you can, let's make the next 16 years as popular as the previous ones...

Not managed to surface here for a while. Have made zero progress since last visit. MIL continues to bounce from one heinous malady to the next, quite tiring. Also, did I mention stubborn? We're dealing with a nonagenarian toddler, excepting the poo is bigger and far more malodoruous.

Further, now my own body is deciding to break down on its own, without any help from me. 2 weeks hence I shall undergo a 3 vertebra spinal fusion. Fun. Only looking forward to it in order to dump this past year of pain behind me. This also is the auspicious month where I first went to the ER as I broke myself sleeping. Yes, it's gotten that bad. SLEEPING, FFS.

Unsurprisingly, expect no paints until I'm somewhere out on the far side of surgery with a number of PT appointments under the belt.

Asked before, and asking again, is it any wonder why I drink? It's my only solace these days... Don't say what about family? They're ANOTHER reason I drink! lol

Not sure I've ever seen an aircraft suit the reds livery more!

We have to pay for our yearly hosting and costs, and I come cap in hand to see if anyone has a few pennies to throw at the coffers. We did some restructuring of things last year, which meant costs should come down and thankfully, we did because they've risen again.

It doesn't cost us an awful lot to keep the lights on around here, but it is a good chunk of money. We keep everything as low cost and efficient as we can, whilst still providing what we think is right and hopefully that's seen.

We've had Actor give a kind donation recently, and that's a huge help towards things.

If anyone else has anything to help with our hosting / domain / storage costs, then we'd all be very appreciative, I'm sure.

Around 40 cockpits are booked in for the weekend at Newark Air Museum, more than usual!

CockpitFest really has become 'the' preserved aviation event of the year. You are up close with so many aircraft, and people who can answer most questions. The 'networking' side is fantastic, these are the people with the knowledge and experience, and are always keen to help.

Plus the aeroboot (car boot sale of aircraft parts) is always really interesting to look around and pick up some bits and pieces, usually cheaper than ebay.

I am putting on 'A Lightning Experience' in the hangar, been wiring up real equipment for the last couple of weeks... Final push to complete the display this weekend. Lots of live equipment with flashing lights, and noises... Not just 'as per' the real thing, but actually the real thing!

I know existing FGUK membrs have not attended past events due to distance, but if any of the new guys lived closer, I'd be great to say hi.

Distance is is a debatable excuse though - we have regular visitors travel from various European countries, and people come from as far as Dubai and Hawaii!
