FlightNight - 8th Feb 2025 / Gulf Galavanting

Hello all and welcome to the plan for our Gulf Galavant this Saturday the 8th of Feb.

We shall be skirting the coast of the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman as we explore this gorgeous scenery.

The routing will be:

OEDF -- Start Point

OEDR

OBBI

OTBD

OMAA -- Break

OMDB

OOKB

OOSH

OOMS - End

For this, you will be furnished with an updated version of the EE Lightning T.5 that Scott has been working on in the background. This is a great chance to give it a shakedown (warning, the autopilot doesn't work yet ;) )

We'll see you at 8pm GMT on Saturday evening for some absolute arsing about and sightseeing.

If Oly can sort us some orthos that'd be even better because it's gorgeous around there - Note Oly: the difference between S3 and S4 is huge, probably worth trying 4 if you can?

    OEDF

    Install as normal

  • Thanks Oly, you're a legend!

  • Being trying the Lightening out and I get a pop up when spawning at the airfield

FG stopsloading unitl you ok this message

  • Lovely Aircraft, well done m8. same error message as oly2b. She does like a 'wee' wander to port even on full thrust. Airspeed info feedback i.e more visible./accurate than slider for half blind auld guy would help. As would airbrakes! made a terrible mess of home base RAF Leuchars. Thank you for all your time, she will become a real credit to you.

  • Yeah just ignore the messages. WIP and all that.

Hit H to get the small HUD up which might help with speed display, also make sure both engines are started "]" - key as It should stay pretty straight down the runway, I've never noticed much wandering.

  • Got the small HUD ok, wandering is in flight not on take off. drift to port not due to wind turbulence ect. FDM? will try H rather than h !

  • Ok got it now thank you! just needed to zoom in! altitude and airspeed visible in HUD, when I do so. Airspeed is bleedable on long approach.

  • Ctrl-B is air brakes.

Also, generally - long final is not really an option on 'Flight nights' - it normally goes "there's the airport, land as you see fit" - All pilots barrel roll, bleed speed 2000ft out, gear down, teaspoons out, flaps 2 clicks, butter the landing.

    Done in 25 seconds.

    Be prepared, Actor.

Going to hold off on downloading until before the flight. :)

Or if you’re me, dive onto runway Ryanair/Navy style full speed.

  • That also !

  • Just a a 'wee' thought lads,(don't get them often), might be a good idea if I land last, you'll be out of fuel before ground crew clean up the runway!

  • Lightnings were not known for fuel efficiency.

  • Friends just dropped in from Glasgow, their staying the night, so will not be crashing the lightning after all, sorry team!

  • Don't worry - I will take your place....

  • Quick note,, Porcius good stuff! m8! You ever need a fly on your wing, I'm there!

  • Watch out for pokey things on the apron of 34R

Glad you all had a good flight night!

If anyone could lend a hand with fiddling the FDM ( I have not done this before) aside from the annoying popup box at start, I have a couple of changes to make as I recently acquired some operating data manuals, could improve the accuracy a bit.

    Cheese, Scott
