FlightNight - Are you all bored? !! Participation requested !!
FGUK FlightNight has been proudly going now for 17+ years in some form or another.
Over the years many have come and gone but we've always kept up a good core and it's been a nice excuse to just get out and fly and enjoy the latest stuff in Flight Gear - as well as do some testing.
I'm going to put my impressive tackle on the line here and say that It's starting to feel like the enthusiasm for FlightNight is dipping. Don't get me wrong, there's always been peaks and troughs but the last year it really does feel like the love is going.
Ignoring timezones, various other commitments and ways people spend their weekends I just think that it's not possible to say the enthusiasm is there as it was previously.
So I'd like to use this post to discuss what you hate about flight night and what you'd like to see more of in order to increase participation.
Is it that the banter isn't as good anymore? Do we spend too much time talking about serious stuff?
Is there not enough "hard-core" flight sim stuff? Are you bored of just following a leader around some set way points, even when there's a good set of scenery beneath you?
What kind of flights do you come away from thinking "that was bloody good fun" and which ones leave you dead inside?
Everyone participate please, if you can, let's make the next 16 years as popular as the previous ones...

Some, not all need meds to cope in life I do ,I hearty wanted to contribute something, spent so much time planning a flight Night, asked for help as posted, in the event of issues/problems, no one stepped up, On Flight Night yep, meds kicked in, nerves shakes , I crashed on take off. When I said on TeamSpeak why the f£$^ did that just happen? I was told It was because I was full of whiskey.
Passed the lead to Stuart. He clearly, by the numerous screenshots of himself was ok with that.
In my early days with you lads, I so looked forward to Sat Nights,.
As you quite rightly say, something is missing. Think its humanity.
Narcissists only thrive when they are allowed to, Stuart.
I have teamed up with another group,
Good luck and keep making those amazing aircraft!
" Narcissists only thrive when they are allowed to, Stuart.". I dont allow them to. So if your thinking of pointing that particular finger at me, you had better think again.
Right at you, bring it on. Will not be back here, so fart in the wind.
You accused voodoo of the same shit when you first got here. Look in the mirror before you go, and dont let the door hit you on the arse on the way out.
Yep same shit, different smell. so fart in the wind.
Heres a song for you. It fits you like a glove

Ah well, as usual, my attempts at constructive debate and feedback go down the shitter. I'll try again in another 6 months
(sorry to read all that above, but Alex, your last post made me laugh!)
Prohibiting factors: Wife, kids, and Sat nights are often social ones. Every other night is also fully occupied by kids after school clubs, grandparents, homework, gardening, DIY, etc...
I think I've joined about 4 or 5 flight nights ever (usually if wifey is away for a weekend), the last one I joined, I was on a work trip offshore on an oil rig in the North Sea! And that must have been 7 or 8 years ago...
I've not even ran flightgear for over a year on my new lovely PC... Been focusing what little time I have on researching aircraft information, and finding missing parts to build the sim up. As with developng a sim, there are so many aspects to work on, got to pick one and progress that before branching into another. Right now my progress doesn't involve using the software.
As for promoting flight nights, it strikes me that the forum itself is fairly quiet these days, maybe with more people using the forum there would be more chance of enticing new people to the flight nights?

I do like Saturday night flights a lot and take part as often as I can. I prefer GA and chopper flights, sometimes backing off fast jets, but you have seen me there, too.
Family issues go first, that is the reason why I am reluctant to take over the flight leader job more often, as I don't always know if I'll be available next saturday. And I have to admit, I am still a bit shy with my English language abilities ...
I am glad that at the last flight nights there were a few new people around and I hope, they take part on a more regular basis and get into teamspeak chatting, as well!
Thanks to Stuart, Oly, Alex to keep it running, and to Flash, Sanni, G-Orbi and everyone who takes part again and again. We can be proud of having this going every week for years!
