FlightNight 28th September - A piece of cake
This week for flightnight we will be exploring the exciting island of Madeira.
Meeting at LPMA at 8pm UK time and with comms on voice I invite you all to bring an aircraft that's capable of 100kts in some fairly challenging terrain. There will be climbing and descending in a manner that would probably suit something with a bit of a sporty airframe.
I'd suggest a single engine fixed wing with enough power to get you out of trouble when faced with cliff faces rushing towards you at a rate of knots.
Post what you fancy flying here so we can avoid blue gliders.
Fun, excitement and good company are guaranteed. Tell all your friends!

FlightGear Zivko Edge for me. It can be installed via the launcher or downloaded from here:
https://mirrors.ibiblio.org/flightgear/ftp/Aircraft/ZivkoEdge.zip
Can't believe people still have the blue glider as their default after all these years.
Some photoscenery for the islands of Maderia - OneDrive link:-
Maderia
Install as before
How do you make another aircraft the default?
It is set in /data/AI/Aircraft/fallback_models.xml
Just swap for something more appropriate, eg . . .
AI/Aircraft/c172/c-fgfs.xml
is probably fine for this Saturday.
If you want to make sure the model is ok, just edit
/data/AI/wingman_demo.xml
To the same model and load it in via the AI > Traffic and Scenario Settings window.
It will fly with you.
Super thanks Olley!

I’m thinking either FGAddon Chinook or Stuart’s EC135. I want to be the awkward guy in the helicopter :)

I take that one.
Liveries works over MP....I have checked that....didn't checked that with Me-262...blabla.
MP-sound didn't work....don't know why....maybe you know it.

I have ogel as the default ;)
I'm old....I fear change. Change is BAD. That old Blue Glider is like an old friend for me.....A wrinkled up, bitchy, insane, babbling, old friend that farts a lot and spits when he talks.
VooDoo
"how would you describe the members of FGUK"
First things first.....ogel and blue glider both are ugly.
To your question Alex....well... one person is so and the other person is different.
One thing more...we all have a same interesting of aircrafts....this is the intersection that brings us together.
In one MSFS YouTube video they said...hm I can't remember excatly that they have 15 million user.....wow that is for me unbelievable.
I thought OK.....a couple of 100 thousand maybe. But you can see I'm totally wrong.
I'm addicted to FGFS....I blame FGUK. Blue Gliders? Not so much. Alex, LOL!
VooDoo
Fucking nuts with the odd additional psychopath
Ooh, I might have to switch my choice. Maybe a heli isn’t the right thing for this flight.

Check it out first....small fuel tanks. There are a couple of Slovenian livs though....Takes off and lands in an area the size of a large living room at 40 KIAS.

I'm not sure if I can attend, I'd love to! Quite interesting discussion, this is my chance to get rid of the ugly gliders, changed to DR-400.
If I can come, I'll either take the Velocity XL RG (see eagles comment), it might be a special challenge to get quick climbs! Or I might take the Skymaster C337 (launcher or https://sourceforge.net/p/flightgear/fgaddon/HEAD/tree/trunk/Aircraft/Cessna337/)

I have flown the FGAddon Storch before, really nice. I have even made a fictional RAF livery for this evening. It's such a nice STOL plane.

I hadn't anticipated anyone would bring the Storch/Fly it tonight. Here's a version with more realistic fuel:

This *is not* like the Existing FGAddon Storch so be advised.
VooDoo
How did you open/close the door? And can the wings fold? For the Storch

Hi eagle, is this one still the ancient but very well working version from buckarroo's hangar 2013? I've been flying a lot with it and quite like it. Just tried it in 2020.4 nightly and it works nice and smoothly with convincing FDM. Landing without flaps requires good planning ...
Oswald
Hi Oswald,
Buckarroos Hangar 2013....now as you said.... that was it. I can remember. It's a good FDM....I can't say it....I can say I can fly it.
Because I'm not a pilote in real life.
I think....the Airbrakes don't do to much....it should be a bit better....and other things more. But other things of the aircraft are not so bad.
I talking about of the feeling of flying and not of the numbers.
In my smarty pants opinion... some or many developer of FDMs have not really a clue about it. I know that is a big word....but I say it so.
I think that is really a hard job to make a FDM that simulate the characteristic of an aircraft.
One example and I talk about Amigos who has knowlegde about it.
Warty have tried to make the Staggerwing better and his idea was not so bad.
But VooDoo haved maded a way better FDM of the Staggerwing for me.... because he understand what a Taildragger is...and he can simulate it. That doesn't mean that is to 100 % the Staggerwing....but for me it feels way more like a Staggerwing and that is enough for me.
People who read this.....should ask VooDoo,Stu,Warty and hmmmm maybe some other peoples of a good FDM....these peoples are rare to find.
So...enough blabla Oswald...enjoy the Velocity.
Just a tiny little bit of reverse blabla ????
I used to fly the Velocity a lot a few years ago, read about its properties, watched Youtube videos and was quite amazed, how close Buckaroo's fdm appears to be what I read and watched. I.e. long forward planning to get rid of altitude and speed, not much effect from the double rudder used as speed break, long rolling when fully loaded before take off, fuel use, speed and engine settings. He is a Yasim Artis, isn't he?
Having said that, I am convinced that our FGUK FDM artists could improve an already good fdm even further if the chose to. I reckon, other aircraft are on their focus. And I haven't tried the Staggerwing yet.
Oswald
d for the doors. The wings do not fold.
As for the discussion on FDM's and such, it would be better to open a discussion in another section to get more information on the table as this area is primarily about FlightNight and surrounding things.
