FlightNight December 21st 2024 - Festive Foolery!

Listen up FGUK'ers

We have been tasked by the man in red (that's Santa to you and me) to help one of his friends out. There's a cabin in the deepest darkest Welsh hills that is missing it's consignment of Christmas trees and is going to be all not festive and very sad.

FGUK have got the job of delivering as many Christmas trees as possible to the big old cabin by 10pm on Saturday night.

We'll be departing from East Midlands airport (EGNX) and heading directly south(ish) to the Happy Elf's Christmas Tree farm where the happy elf will be pleased to sell us all their Christmas trees at a massive mark up due to demand.

The challenge will involve getting into a rather tight prepared landing ground, loading up in the holding area and then departing again before we go to Cardiff (EGFF) for a half time break.

After half time we head into the hills to deliver our trees to a hilltop location that we might just manage without crashing.

Once that's all done we go back to EGOD for tea and medals.

You will be required to bring a FIXED WING aircraft that has a loading bay of at least 15ft x 5ft to fit a decent sized Christmas tree. It will also need to be pretty darn good at landing in rather tight circumstances.

I'll be bringing the Short Belfast.

See you at 8pm UK time for our final flight night before the big man comes and empties his sack all over your carpet.

There is a CUSTOM SCENERY for this flight which will be provided on Friday Morning to give everyone time to install it.

  • What means that a helicopter is too slow?!? Don't know the Belfast...

  • Hi Sanni,

I think a heli will be too slow just because of the distance needed to be covered. We've got about 130nm between the Happy Elf's tree farm and the half way point so by the time everyone has finished messing around landing and departing again we're likely to need to cover about 200kts.

If you wanted to bring a heli that can do 140kts or so and not actually stop and just go point to point you're more than welcome to do that but you might miss all the fun of our fellow skilled aviators 'landing' in confined spaces

  • Would like to see these landings... :)

Let's see, what I can do to help.

  • Good news and Bad News. The bad news is that I'm gonna miss this one as my new Girl is taking me to Chicago this weekend Christmas shopping. The good news is that I've got next week covered for a post Christmas flight. Ya'll have fun and think good thoughts for Uncle VooDoo.

  • Here's a link to the scenery:

The FestiveFoolery folder just add as a scenery folder the same way you would with any other scenery in your launcher.

There is another folder in there you'll see called Add these to your FGDATA

Simply drop that "Models" folder into your MAIN FG data directory, that'll then give you a FGUK folder inside the Models folder. That's where it'll pull the models from for our excitement.

See you at EGNX tomorrow at 8pm!

  • Well, I would say... why not ?

Get in there and move your life forwards, again, why not ?

Time moves Forward, why cant we ?

  • The needs of the FEW out-way the needs of the many.

  • I’ll test the Belfast out tomorrow, never flown it before.

  • Is there a flightplan to practice landing at the Farm?

I am also having an issue with the Belfast, if I use the brakes, they stay on, I also have it with the A400M but on no other aircraft. I might have to bring something else that can't do the short landings.
