Spitfire Mk. XVIe - RELEASED V0.9

Morning All,

Spitfire XVIe released for your enjoyment.

Plenty available about this bird online but here's our own little version, some more information and the download is available here:

https://sites.google.com/view/fgukhangar/flightgear-uk-home-page/hangar/warbirds/spitfire-mk-xvie

Please give it a good thrashing and let us know what's broken then we can update it to version 1 and share it further with the world. I think I've been staring at it for so long now I can't see the wood for the trees!

Alex

  • Downloaded from your link and from hangar, both were VB versions and not new version?

  • Fixed the link in the download page. Just cant get quality staff these days.

  • Lol....thanks Gents!

  • Really fast lady! Likes to explore runway on take off, once in the air she is very much a Spit! Go light on the yoke! tight high speed turns and you dig your own grave, lol, Love her!

  • Just did a little test flight and I noticed this reflectance triangles in the cockpit.

Also it really wants to roll to the left (not sure if this is intended).

  • Prop spins to the right, therefore, it has a desire to roll left.

  • My version barely flies - what happened to the FDM? I put the FDM back in from my archived version and it's back to normal.

Change the extension to .xml and try this. Not sure what happened.

  • As I said before, fast, responsive, dogfight = spin=deadmeat!

  • Not sure why she's messed up VooDoo. Only thing that I changed were the engine values because she's got a bigger engine than the V and IX

Anyone else having issues flying it?

  • If anyone is having issues with any prop aircraft pulling left on take off:

    • Make sure you're applying the power smoothly, about 40% throttle to get moving and up to 15kts or so then over the next second apply the rest of it
    • Anticipate the tail leaving the ground by putting in a touch of opposite rudder to the swing just before the tail is in the air. The transition in FG between wheel on the ground and full rudder authority can be a bit jarring
    • If you still have issues, then just before the tail lifts, pull the power by about 3%-5% then add it back in if you need to once straight and true.

The big spinning props and torquey engines do quite well in FG but as soon as that tailwheel lifts the transition period seems to go a bit haywire sometimes and it's a bit of a trade of between smoothing that out and having more accurate performance in the air.

  • @Avionyx I did experience it being quite twitchy. I also couldn’t see you when I was flying it (nor when you were in it) - over Nellis yesterday.

  • I'm completely baffled. The engine on my download winds up to 5000 rpm (slowly) and the aircrafts take off roll is almost the whole runway. A quick look at the FDM, comparing it to the version I had last shows a lot more changes including wing geometry and cruise speed at altitude, etc.

Something happened to the version I am downloading - this can't be right. I'm baffled.
