It starts your graphics on a low setting and once in you can start pushing settings up to see how far you can go before it gives up on you. Its not the same for everyone.
So true, I'm one of the few developers for FG that do HDR/PBR compatibility, so It's real nice to see that more and more people are getting into HDR and making aircraft compatible with it.
How are you guys getting rid of the aliasing? I tried it yesterday and it looks pretty good but there seem to be an aliasing problem....a very bad one.
No need for PBR or repainting of models thus maintaining compatibility with previous FG versions.
And, yes, as VooDoo said, Im an evil genius.
VooDoo, the issues your seeing are typical of the varied and mixed results you currently get with HDR. What works for one person, may not work for anyone else when it comes to the rendering oddities.
I am in love with HDR, I have tried the nightly build and couldn't figure HDR but I'll try again over the weekend. I need to have a fly around LA soon.
If you make it PBR, then it becomes functional in HDR only. Im well aware a lot of our pilots are not able to run High demand specifications, and will likely remain on an FG version thats not got HDR function. My way means they can still fly our latest updated aircraft and take part in flights without issue.
I completely agree, I gotta find out a way that'll let you have a PBR aircraft in HDR and non-PBR on the default shader. I'd achieve this by means of switching effect files based on whether HDR is enabled or not, but I'm not there yet. I'm in contact with icecode, the developer behind HDR, hopefully he'll have some ideas.
Yeah I know, I was hoping icecode would propose something different but it seems like there's nothing possible to do right now, except at least make the existing aircraft look decent in HDR, even if without PBR.

Interesting, I'm excited to see how that'll turn out cause I haven't managed to get it working in ALS and HDR yet.
Just grabbed the latest nightly build -... how do I enable/where do I get this HDR deal?
VooDoo
you need to add this to the exe
--compositor=Compositor/HDR/hdr --graphics-preset=medium-quality

Settings in FlightGear or in my Graphics card?
in FG once your in the sim
Thanks!

HDR does breath new life into the models

Can now automatically switch between Shiny and non shiny paint jobs per livery in HDR mode.

How? I haven't managed to do that yet with the model-pbr shader.

Roger that. It is super cool but needs a bit more baking i think.

I have a jet ranger. Ive been looking at it to see what was needed to complete it
Wow. Just Wow.
Fucking Showoff....
VooDoo
If you got it, flaunt it..........................
Exactly lol.
Oh, so you're not planning to make it PBR but just HDR compatible, yeah that works then.

I'll tell you now, theres no property thats usable to switch effects. Ive been though that already

So A little comparison shot. Same time of day, same conditions. Ones MSFS, the other is FG
Top one is MSFS
Just thought I'd share these, I did try the Bell 430 but the screens and buttons lost their writing textures.
All the fixed wings I tried had transparent fuselages, so it's far from ready but it's amazing.

OSG Text doesnt work with HDR at the moment which is why some Heli warning panels and button texts dont show up.
icecode fixed that in one of the recent nightlies, so if you update it should work, same is with textranslate.
