FG Pilot numbers.
Here are 2 Screen shots of Online maps. One is for Flight Gear, the other is for GeoFS.
Fg 35 players. GeoFS, 913 players. Same time of day.
You can fly GeoFS for free, but the good stuff requires subscriptions. Everything in FG is free.
Does the Free GeoFS look any better than FG, nope. Not in the slightest.
So the aircraft must be better detailed with better Dynamics than FG. Nope, in a word, its got shite dynamics.
So the question is this. Why do we struggle to get pilots into FG. Its clearly not a cost thing. GeoFS always ranks higher than FG in the yearly Flight sim surveys as well, but I cant see why.
Answers on a postcard to the FG Dev team who clearly need to up the game in some way ( what way that is, I have no idea ).

Just looked at GeoFS - it is shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.
Photorealistic textured airplanes.
Poor control system.
I have no idea why there is so many 'online' ? Maybe it's a bunce to knock FG down ?
They consistently beat FG in all the Flight Simming surveys. In Fact, FG its pretty much non existent in the surveys.
Because lots of people these days want to get into something that's quick and easy and gives a fast dopamine hit.
The GeoFS lot are the same type that use MSFS on Xbox or playstation. Get in and fire it up, a few quick buttons and you can take some screenshots to show your mates.
If you want to do that in FG you'll need to find the aircraft, probably install the wrong one first, then go find another one, work out how it all works and then see if you want to get some additional scenery. Bind your control sticks etc.
A big barrier to common use of FG is consistency. None of the aircraft really operate in the same way, the menus look different, the level of systems operation is different, even the level at which the FDM is represented. It's all down to each aircraft and, in some cases, how it's configured.
FG has many barriers to getting new people interested in it and It would take quite an effort to overcome them effectively.
